Confessions of an Innkeeper:
Here Comes the Boom!

This will be the first in a regular series of updates to be posted on-line as we embark on our restoration and renovation journey. It is our intent to chronicle the process, and in doing so, tell the story of the Inn’s next chapters while we reflect on her first 173 years.

First, we are closing the doors of the Club following breakfast on December 9th, 2018.

Our first month will see us prepare the building for construction by emptying her contents (look for the on-line option through MaxSold Kingston!!) and by conducting select demolition in rooms and spaces that are being re-envisioned.

In mid-January, we will begin the process of renovating each of the suites to a new level of luxury and distinctiveness. We intend to keep some of the eclectic elements and the unique shapes and sizes of the rooms, while adding modern amenities and levels of refinement that will position the Club as the regions’ finest accommodator. Key elements like the vaults, the grand staircase and much of the historic millwork will be rehabilitated and/or re-purposed.

We are excited about getting started – I am pretty excitable really.

We are particularly excited about the introduction of a bar on our lobby level and the addition of 2 new Signature suites and 2 new deluxe suites to compliment the 16 rooms we have already in the mix. The staff is excited about our new kitchen, the new laundry facility and by a new interior corridor that will connect the Cartwright Wing to the rest of the property.

The entire property will benefit from new landscaping, fresh coats of paint and new sections of roof.  We have already completed a ‘cleaning’ of the stone that will set us up to do the on-going masonry work that will keep the Club looking young for years to come.

We will miss taking care of each of you. We are heartened by so many who seem as enthusiastic as we are about what the future holds!

We are recommending that you look to our sister Inns in Kingston: Greenwoods Inn, the Rosemount Inn or the Secret Garden Inn to book your stay while we are closed. You can read more about each of these wonderful Inns at http://historicinnskingston.com/

Check-in on us every once and a while or add us to your favourite social media platform to receive the updates, pictures and videos as the come out. While we are closed, we will be answering the telephone and our emails every week day.

Sean, Nancy and the Team

PS: We do not know exactly when we will be opening, but we are keeping a waiting list beginning from Queen’s move-in week August 26th!
